DUSTY FOLWARCZNY

TITLE: “Scrape”

LOCATION: 5287 W. Lawrence

SIZE: 6.5’ x 4’ x 4’

MATERIALS: Salvaged Steel

SPONSOR: 45th Ward Placemaking Committee*

Dusty Folwarczny explores the tension between heavy metal and gravity and balance. Her work uses the natural ability of steel to protect itself through oxidation and exposes the raw aesthetic of rust. Folwarczny creates art that is approachable and accessible. She views a pile of scrap steel as a challenge and pulls together the pieces of a puzzle.

“Scrape” engages the viewer. The large rings made of salvaged steel juxtaposed on top of one another do this much like a child would by stacking any available material. She makes the scrap metal appear playful and light.

*45th Ward Placemaking Committee Sponsors: Alderman John Arena, Senator John Mulroe, Representative Rob Martwick, and Gale Street Inn.
