TED SITTING CROW GARNER

TITLE: “Wan”

LOCATION: 1701 N. Cleveland

Ted Sitting Crow Garner demonstrates quality craftsmanship and structural dependability in his sculptures. It is often difficult to achieve given the variety of materials with which he works. “Wan” maintains the craftsman’s integrity and provides a dependable seating place for passersby.

Though “Wan” is suitable as a bench, it is composed of wings and curves which suggest a different purpose. The vertical edge with its gentle slope reminds us of a bird in flight while the drastic curve in the horizontal seat evokes a bird of prey. Garner’s works discard straight lines as faithfully as does nature, employing curved lines which illustrate the tension present in both the physical structure and the representative form. “Wan” is solid, but appears fluid. It is very graceful, yet aggressive.
