Pamela Reithmeier’s work celebrates the sustainability of the art of sculpture. Like many sculptors, Reithmeier utilizes recycled and repurposed metal. Her process of deconstruction and recreation is analogous to the methods of the natural world. The cycle of life is a process which deeply informs Reithmeier’s work.
“Balancing Act” is a recycled steel representation of nature’s unceasing equilibrium. Reminiscent of yin and yang, “Balancing Act” depicts inverted twin creatures of flight. One lustrous Dragon Fly travels upwards while its dull double fills the void below. Reithmeier has intricately cast the delicate creatures to remind the viewer of the balance and sequence of nature and by doing so she has made the creatures as permanent as anything can ever hope to be.
