Jaci Willis’ work directly reflects the environment surrounding the artist. “Night Empress” is a product of this environment. Willis’ current piece is based on the New Orleans setting of the book “Jitterbug Perfume.”

“Night Empress” is reminiscent of the mysticism of the culture surrounding New Orleans. The sentiment of the piece is the night and its relationship with dreams and intuition. The piece conveys that when night falls, certain truths from our subconscious are exposed and seemingly resolved. Occasionally the “Night Empress” will provide comfort but more often, under the curtain of darkness, she disguises the truth.
