James Havens’ sculptures contain enough information that the viewer can interpret the message without being confused or overwhelmed by the sculpture. The result is a sculpture that everyone can relate to in one-way or another. This is definitely the case with his sculpture, “Let’s Read.” Regardless of how it is interpreted by its audience, everyone will find a connection with it.

Havens uses stainless steel to create his sculptures. He notes that stainless steel is especially hard to work with. The artist has to be very careful to use just the right amount of heat, as you do not want to completely distort ita. It can often be difficult to cut and does not always want to be manipulated the way you want it to. Despite all this, Havens has developed a specific fluid style to his work that appears to push the limits of the material.
