“Presence” is the latest sculpture in Gary Kulak’s High Chair series that has evolved and transformed over time. In this installment of the series, the high chair embraces high and low culture creating a neutral place where the two intersect. The legs of the chair replace the pedestal and the loop around the top.
The high chair form of “Presence” represents the human presence. It creates a frame of reference and basis for communication to occur among the audience. The attempt to create presence with absence is a continuing theme in Kulak’s art and encourages the viewer to understand different perspectives within the work.
