“Six Degrees of Contemplation” was a collaborative creation by the following six art students at DePaul Colleg Prep (Formally Gordon Tech College Prep): Jennifer Gijada, Valerie Mendez, Genevieve Jones, Anny Solano, Anna Korol, and Zinder Wright. The young artists wanted to explore the truth of inner beauty.

“Six Degrees of Contemplation” depicts a female form. The figure is crouched over in meditation, revealing a fissure running the length of her back. Her meditation has produced a restorative power represented by a colorful thread. The multicolored ribbon crisscrosses her fractured back, pulling it back together again. The beautiful string represents an internal cure, not an external palliative. Though this was a collaborative project, the teen artists clearly know much about the healing strength of introspection.
