Terrence Karpowicz honors the term “craftsman” and raises it to the level of artisan. His signature works display tension at a point of contact, or joint, allowing us to understand the delicate balance necessary for disparate objects to connect.
“Mount” takes us to that realization in a most beautiful way. There is a piece of a mountain that has been carved out to mount a cyclinder that balances on a cone. Like the mountains, it is strong, maybe masculine, and leaves us in awe. The steel cone and cylinder are finished with a rich patina that suggests the warmth of years of burnishing. Just as these organic and man-made materials are brought together in a successful relationship; so too are we, in our own environment.
