Karpowicz was influenced by the theo-ries and practices of Minimalism and Conceptualism while an art student. As a Fulbright-Hayes scholar he learned the ancient techniques and craftsmanship of watermill and windmill construction. The joining of those aesthetics is mirrored in his work. The joining of regular, organic materials to machine-tooled geometric shapes of steel create works that are uniquely those of Terry Karpowicz.
An artist well known for his public sculptures, Nekay is Terry’s version of Nike of Samothrace. She represents Victory with wings of stone that are both accepting and defending.
