PATRICK MCDONALD

TITLE: Diamonds Are Forever

LOCATION: Racine, Clark & Grace

SIZE: 12' x 8' x 8'

MATERIALS: Painted Steel

SPONSOR: East Lake View Neighbors

Pat McDonald received a BFA in painting from St. Cloud University and an MFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. His interest in making sculptures and the direction of his work have been strongly influenced by family and friends. McDonald currently uses concrete and steel, which allows him to display his interest in mass and elegance.

“Diamonds are Forever” expresses McDonald’s goal of engaging the viewer in the exploration of the shape, mass, and negative space of a piece. For McDonald, sculpture-making has become more about the work process than the end product. Collaboration is an integral part of McDonald’s work process and forces him to think outside the box. The creation of large-scale public sculpture does not end until the piece is installed.
