PAT MCDONALD

TITLE: Ring Toss

LOCATION: Wellington and inner Lake Shore Drive (Located in the park)

SIZE: 12’ x 24’

MATERIALS: concrete & steel

SPONSOR: Saint Joseph Hospital

Imagine playing a game of ring toss with giants. Think about the size of equipment necessary. Pat McDonald did and then captured that whimsical image in this piece. Working with steel and concrete, he creates immense sculptures that captivate the senses. “Ring Toss” is his largest sculpture to date. While the size and weight are stunning, it is the seemingly effortless arrangement of the rings, and how they appear to be hanging in mid-air, that make this piece entirely approachable. McDonald has combined his interest in art, sculpture and the simple things in the world around him to create a monumental sculpture.

Pat McDonald was born and raised in Minnesota. His work in concrete and steel allows him to display his interest in shape, mass and negative space. He collaborates with computer animators, architects and engineers for technical design and structural integrity. His work has been shown throughout the Midwest and East Coast.
