Nicole Beck is a local Chicago sculptor who specializes in large-scale public works. At the heart of her works beats the rhythm and beauty of the dynamic systems found in nature and the sciences. Beck uses basic geometrics to balance form with ideas.
“King of Prairie Town” riffs on a Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House window screen. Design elements were pared away to reveal a female figure, a “muse” for Frank. The stained glass lanterns are lit with low-watt LEDs and powered by solar energy. Beck believes that the green energy utilized in “King of Prairie Town” would have been embraced by Wright. Much of his architecture was designed to exist harmoniously within nature.
