Mike Helbing is a lifelong sculptor and has been developing his voice through the duration of that career. A Vietnam veteran who continues to be very active with the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, the guiding principle to Mike’s art is to have fun.

“My Pantree” bears its silliness on both its branches and its title. It is one of those eye-catching, head tilting pieces of public art that draws the viewer in for closer inspection and sends them away smirking. Although the experience of discovering “My Pantree” does not culminate at the chuckle of reading its name, the sculpture has a truly organic beauty. The work filters sunlight beautifully through its raised pots, pans, pitchers, bowls, strainers and tubs, throwing sun off of the steel and oil-slicked copper kitchenware.
