Michael Young has been producing sculptures for over 30 years. He has exhibited works throughout the world, including a commission for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Young works primarily in aluminum, relying on natural and reflected light, although occasionally he does employ a neon light for accent.
For those who believe public art’s job is to bring life into a space, Michael Young’s work is ideal. Young’s LSE submission, “Vortex” is a fully charged work, bringing electricity and motion to the space it inhabits. Young’s mastery of aluminum creates an impression of weightlessness that is nothing short of exhilarating, with its inflections and undampened reminder of life.
