Mike Brown uses Indiana limestone to its fullest dimension. He redesigns these pieces of stone into works that are textural. They pull you in. From a distance you notice the colors that he has applied and the deep cuts. On your approach you begin to appreciate the fine details of this master craftsman. That is his intent, to draw you in. There is a comforting feeling that comes over the viewer as the intricacies are revealed. Brown describes this sculptural dialog as “defined spaces that we move to, through, around, interact with, and experience as our own space.”

Mike Brown was born in northern England and has lived in Canada and on the East Coast. At W.R. Harper College, he developed the sculpture, three dimensional design and ceramics program. He has retired from Harper College to devote full-time to his sculpture. His works have been shown in many exhibits in the Midwest.
