JOHN ADDUCI

TITLE: Major

LOCATION: 656 W. Belden

SIZE: 10’ x 12’ x 7’

MATERIALS: Aluminum

SPONSOR: Sam Sanchez, John Barleycorn

John Adduci is a lifelong Chicago artist. He has been working in the same Old Town studio, which was previously a CTA substation, for over 30 years. In the tradition of Chicago public art, Adduci’s pieces are large, bold, bright, industrial, humorous, brash, and, most importantly, unique to their creator.

“Major” is intended to be explored from multiple sides. From one direction the shapes look familiar but incongruent, an unrelated and distorted combination of familiar symbols. Then, from another angle we discern the clearly human form of the high-stepping “Major” morphing into the smooth-strutting dancer. Adduci is challenging the viewer to explore, think deeply, and discuss with others what they may have missed on their own.
