Verbeek began fabricating and welding at the age of 20 for a specialized excavating company. As he began learning the fundamentals of welding and structure, Verbeek became a member of Local 150 Operating Engineers Union. Following years of shaping the earth, he took time off from excavating to focus on sculpture. He fabricated functional metal furniture and opened his own custom metal fabricating business. He closed business, choosing to work in excavating and spend his time sculpting in freedom.
Jason has created a body of work that is ever evolving. He examines dynamics, life and form – like space curving in reaction to gravitational force. Lightness and mass together generate dynamics. Elevation serves as the connection of mass to earth, producing lightness.
