Michael Young started building things at an early age. Eventually excelling in art, he became interested in light and discovered film. He later studied at both Columbia College and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has continued to work on sculptures both large and small and his work is in collections throughout Chicago, the Midwest and Japan.

“Looking Up” evokes the grace and beauty of a bird taking flight. Like a bird taking flight, it presents us with an entirely different vision when viewed from different locations. These multiple facets are characteristic of Young’s work. In this 11-foot tall bronze sculpture we see his ability to work with both abstract and contemporary styles. Young credits the collaborative environment at the Sedgwick Studios as an instrument in his own maturation process.
