SHENCHENG XU

TITLE: Our City

LOCATION: Waveland and Wilton (East of Murphy’s Bleachers)

SIZE: 11’ x 3’ x 3’

MATERIALS: steel armature & fiberglass

SPONSOR: Murphy’s Bleachers

Xu explores the magic of the natural world while expressing his own life story. A great love of nature is easily observed in his recent sculptures which combine human forms with other life forms. He does not reproduce the human form. He is developing a language of forms to create visual stories. His work reflects the differences between East & West as well as the differences between traditional and contemporary art.

Shencheng used the exterior of the Hancock Center as inspiration for his new work. Urban life is too often about shuttling back and forth between and within our man made structures. The need to stay together with our fellow human beings is exemplified within the boundaries of a high-rise. This work is dedicated to the people of Sichuan Province who suffered unimaginable losses in the Sichuan Earthquake.
