S. THOMAS SCARFF

TITLE: Dancing Lady

LOCATION: North & Orchard

SIZE: 12' x 9' x 7'

MATERIALS: Aluminum & Bronze

SPONSOR: General Iron

Tom Scarff’s distinguished career in sculpture came following a three year run as art director for the musical “Hair.” His solid reputation was earned over the past three decades. He has the unique ability to transform light and bend it to his needs on a metal sculpture.

While “Dancing Lady” does not employ light, she has another signature element that Scarff employs. She appears to be mid-step – caught and frozen in that one moment of time that he wants to remember. A deliberate bow, a snap of the waist, a dizzying fall it could be any or something entirely different.  Scarff again lets us find our way. He knows a version of the story but encourages us to take our own journey.
