“Fan Dancer, For Sally” demonstrates motion and memory. This stainless steel sculpture rotates in the wind to show the audience different views as the mind allows. For Helbing this sculpture evokes the memory of seeing a fan dance that was previously performed at the 1934 Chicago Worlds Fair.

An integral part of this exotic lineal sculpture is where the space is defined. The lines of Mike Helbing’s work are based on the observation of dance and the mystery that it brings. The polished stainless steel exterior of Fan Dancer also reflects light, forming brilliant gems on the surface.
