Mike Helbing received a B.S. Fine Arts from Ball State University and a MFA in Sculpture from Northern Illinois University. His work has been included in many shows and exhibitions and commissioned by organizations across the U.S.
“Caldo O’Light” represents Helbing’s interest in light, sound, color, and motion. Helbing draws inspiration from observing nature, reading history, myth, science, watching people, other artists, and the world in general. This 15-foot tall sculpture exhibits Helbing’s use of, not only, stainless steel but also many other materials that he feels are needed to realize an idea. Helbing uses these other materials to help to make his works gurgle, move, glint, reflect, flow, spray, glow, or just sit.
