Helbing received a MFA from Northern Illinois University. He assists Richard Hunt in manufacturing large scale commissioned sculptures. His work has been locally featured at Pier Walk, Kay Garvey Gallery, and Chicago Cultural Center. Helbing describes his work as being a celestial party or mind toys, inviting viewers to "roam the playground of their mind." He keeps his work light-hearted with designs reminiscent of the night’s sky, allowing his audience an escape as they dream of other places.
