Micki LeMieux wants to show us how similar we are to all of creation. She elevates the most minuscule of creatures to a visible and artistic plane. “Dino Bloom” is a work in LeMieux’s ongoing series about phytoplankton.

Phytoplanktons are invisible to the naked eye but essential to the health of the planet and the survival of humanity. “Dino Bloom” has enlarged one species up to a size more commensurate with its significance. LeMieux has transformed this important partner from invisible workhorse of the oceanic ecosystem to a colorful, friendly being worthy of our inspection, admiration, and, when necessary, protection.

Partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
