DUSTY FOLWARCZNY

TITLE: “Give”

LOCATION: 2751 N. Inner Lake Shore Drive

SIZE: 14’1” x 14’ x 4’

MATERIALS: Salvaged Steel, Polymer

SPONSOR: Presence Saint Joseph Hospital

Dusty Folwarczny uses salvaged steel as a key piece of her work. She fits the steel together to form a unique piece of art as you might with a puzzle. Folwarczny appreciates and exploits the metal’s natural ability to protect itself through oxidation. Using the strength of the material and the raw textured surface to her advantage, the sculpture’s message becomes clear.

“Give” doesn’t have one solitary meaning. The audience is encouraged to look at it a number of different ways and to start a conversation about it. The circular shape of the piece represents the woman who gives life. But it also signifies the strength of the metal and its capacity to resist the pressure that is being placed on it. Folwarczny uses the pink and gold colors to make the piece more approachable and accessible to the everyday person.
