Bruce White’s “Quake” is about total disruption. The large, caution- yellow cube is cracked asunder. What looks like it should have been an art school exercise on perspective and shape has been shaken and compromised and the resulting image feels subversive. It invades the viewer’s space with bright, sharp edges and challenges preconceptions as well as perception. The sculpture is as much optical illusion as it is art.

White says that he does not consider himself to have one “style” and his rejection of categorization is evident in “Quake.” It is a sketchbook dream brought boldly to life in a manner that no one could ignore.
